Examples of how to use the features of the bot

Here you can see some examples of a situation one might be in and how to solve it. All examples are based on a fictious person logging in with the username DuckFan. Sentences written like this: command line are command lines are are to be written in the channel window.

DuckFan has never used the bot before and wishes to have his real name mentioned every time he enters the channel

First, DuckFan must register with the bot (and select a password) in order to use any other commands. Here we will do this and then set the "info line" (the text that is displayed when DuckFan enters a channel):

1. /msg D hello (lets the bot know who DuckFan is)
2. /msg D pass MyPASSword (sets his password -- substitute MyPASSword with your new password of choise)
3. /msg D info MyPASSword Donald F. Duckson (sets DuckFan's info line to his real name "Donald F. Duckson" -- use the password you have just set)

NOTE: If DuckFan later wants to change his info line, he only needs to use the last command

DuckFan has already registered with the bot earlier, but now he connects from a different place or through a different service provider, so the bot doesn't recognize him

DuckFan must simply tell the bot who he is and that it should recognize him from that new place in the future. That is done like this:

1. /msg D ident MyPASSword

NOTE: If DuckFan has also logged in with a different nickname than when he first registered, (e.g. MouseFan) he must specify the old nickname too, like this:

1. /msg D ident MyPASSword DuckFan

DuckFan wishes to change his password

To do this the old password is needed. If DuckFan does not remember his old password he must talk to one of the ops (channel operators) about it.

1. /msg D pass MyPASSword myNEWpassWoRd (changes DuckFan's password from "MyPASSword" to "myNEWpassWoRd")

DuckFan wants to send a message to ComicBoy (who is also registered with the bot) but ComicBoy is not online right now

To do this DuckFan can take use of the bot's note feature. This is how a note is sent:

1. /msg D notes MyPASSword to ComicBoy Hi! Please email me the images ASAP. Thanks! (after the receipient comes the message -- here the message starts with "Hi!")

When DuckFan return to the channel he is told by the bot that he has 5 notes waiting for him.

DuckFan now wishes to read all the notes, and then erase them all. This is how it's done:

1. /msg D notes MyPASSword read all (the bot will now print all the waiting messages on the screen along with info of who sent them -- only DuckFan will see them on the screen)
2. /msg D notes MyPASSword erase all (all messages will be erased -- if DuckFan would only erase message 3, he could substitute "all" with "3")
