Inducks IRC chat

How to connect to the channels (chatrooms)

An IRC client

First, you have to get an IRC client (also called a chat program). There are several IRC clients available. X-Chat is one of them—it is 100% free, easy to use, and it supports all needed IRC features, and you can get X-Chat for Windows, Linux, MacOS X, BSD, and other systems. Another very well-known but not very good one for Windows is mIRC. mIRC is only free for 30 days' use; after that you have to pay for it.

An alternative, and also very strong, IRC client for Windows, Linux, and MacOS X is KVIrc. There are many other IRC clients for these and many other systems, too. Try searching on Tucows, DaveCentral, CNet download.com, Freshmeat.net. By the way, if you use Mozilla, you already have a small IRC client.

Connect to the server

When you have installed your IRC client you need to connect to the Inducks chat server. This varies from client to client, however, so check your client's documentation for this (should be pretty simple though, since it is needed to use the client). Anyway, this is the info you need to feed to the client:

Server: irc.inducks.org
Port: 6667

(In some IRC programs you have to specify server and port on one line as irc.inducks.org/6667)

Join a channel (chat room)

When you are connected to the server, you should see a bunch of text lines, including a huge Donald Duck logo. When you see this you can join a channel (a chatroom) by typing e.g. /join #dcml and use other commands (see the basic chat commands)
